Miracles do happen. The miracle of light is one Czech artist Pavel Korbička is very much used to perform, recurring to the most delicate, precise and magical takes on space. Simplicity is key in his art, and what a surprise to find his latest work illuminating a detail of the Basilica dei Santi Cosma e Damiano! Some sort a membrane of radiation reveals the presence of some kind of portal.
Part of the exhibition Pavilion 02, curated by Tomasz Wendland and Harro Schmidt, this new site-specific installation is a dialogue between old Venetian architecture and light. The longest producible neon (2.5m) is tilted from a circular window to the sky (45°) in the central axis of the tower. The light from the neon adheres to the window frame, to the wall of the church and the monastery according to its spatial misalignment.
For Tomasz Wendland, Art is and will be all that besides words. And this assertive piece truly manages to refer to that idea, while contributing for a both mysterious and cognitive urban moment, what certainly meets the desire of the organizers of “Take care of Your garden”, the initiative of the Giudecca Art District.
In sum, for all who might want to drop by at the Biennale until next May 30, this special work is well worth a detour (see map below), for it’s not an everyday thing, the way this artist trespasses the weight of architecture, only to re-materialize the essence of the built while rendering all immaterial a powerful presence.
Um traço de luz em Veneza
Os milagres acontecem. O milagre da luz é um que artista checo Pavel Korbička está perfeitamente habituado a fazer, recorrendo às mais delicadas, precisas e mágicas apropriações do espaço. Simplicidade é um termo-chave da sua arte e que surpresa, depararmos-nos com esta nova obra iluminando um detalhe da Basíilica dos Santos Cosme e Damião! Uma espécie de membrana de radiação revela a presença de uma espécie de portal.
Integrada na exposição Pavilion 02, com curadoria de Tomasz Wendland e Harro Schmidt, esta instalação sítio-específica é um diálogo entre a arquitectura antiga de Veneza e a luz. Uma luminária inclinada a 45º, com 2.5m (cumprimento máximo actualmente produzido), atravessa a janela no eixo central da torre em direcção ao céu. A luz do néon adere à moldura da janela, à parede da igreja e do mosteiro, em função do desalinhamento espacial gerado.
Para Tomasz Wendland, A Arte é e será tudo o que está para lá das palavras. Esta assertiva peça consegue com efeito remeter para esta ideia, contribuindo ao mesmo tempo para um momento urbano simultaneamente misterioso e cognitivo, o que certamente vai ao encontro do desejo dos organizadores do programa “Take care of Your garden”, iniciativa do Giudecca Art District.
Em suma, para quem passar pela Bienal ou Veneza até este dia 30 de Maio, esta obra muito especial vale bem o desvio (ver mapa em cima). Pois que não é coisa do dia-a-dia, a forma como o artista trespassa o peso da arquitectura, apenas para rematerializar a essência do edificado, enquanto torna todo o imaterial numa poderosa presença.
